Commercial and Industrial Gutters Pretoria
Gutters Colours Available
AREAS WE SERVICE:
The greater Pretoria area, Cullinan and surrounding areas. Centurion. Midrand. Johannesburg and surrounding areas. Brits. Hartbeespoort and Rustenburg. We also service other areas in Southern Africa dependent on the scope of the project.
Commercial (industrial) gutters and domestic (residential) gutters serve the same basic function — directing rainwater away from the roof and foundation — but they differ significantly in terms of size, materials, design, and installation due to the scale and demands of the buildings they serve.
Here are the key differences between commercial (industrial) gutters and domestic (residential) gutters:
- Size and Capacity
- Commercial Gutters: These gutters are much larger and are designed to handle a higher volume of water, as they are installed on large industrial or commercial buildings with larger roof areas. They 150 x125mm in width and depth.
- Domestic Gutters: Residential gutters are smaller and designed to handle rainwater from typical home roof sizes. They are typically 125 x85mm in width and depth.
- Both these gutters are roll formed with a mobile factory to specific lengths seamless on site.
- Material
- Commercial Gutters: These are often made from stronger and more durable materials.
- designed to withstand the larger volume of water and the demands of industrial environments. Pre painted steel, like Chromadeck or Colourbond, Zincalume or Galvanized steel is also commonly used because of its strength and ability to resist corrosion. Thickness off 0.8 to 1.2 mm pre painted steal.
- Domestic Gutters: Residential gutters are usually made from 0,5mm pre painted Colourbond or Chromadeck materials. These materials are lighter and cheaper, sufficient for smaller rainwater volumes and less extreme weather
- Design and Shape
- Commercial Gutters: Industrial gutters tend to have more robust and varied designs to accommodate the larger scale of buildings. Some may be custom designed, especially for large facilities. They may have deeper profiles.
- These custom designed gutters are manufactured in up to 6m lengths on a bending bench.
- Domestic Gutters: These are typically available in standard shapes like Ogee profile or half-round. The design is simpler since the demands on these systems are lower.
- Installation and Maintenance
- Commercial Gutters: Due to the complexity and scale, installation tends to be more involved and may require professional contractors. These gutters may include internal drains, larger downspouts, and more advanced systems like leaf guards or screening. Maintenance can be more intensive, requiring periodic checks and cleaning due to the larger systems and more challenging heights.
- These custom gutters and rainwater goods are designed specifically to match a specific roof or problem area.
- These custom designed gutter systems are sometimes used where water must be channeled away from a specific vulnerable or problem area.
- After more than 30 years of experience in the design and installation of these non-standard custom designed rainwater goods and rainwater harvesting systems, we pride ourselves to be on top off the latest techniques and installation methods.
- Domestic Gutters: Installation is generally simpler, with some homeowners opting for DIY installation, although professional installation is common. Maintenance is more straightforward, focusing on clearing debris and ensuring proper water flow.
- Downspouts
- Commercial Gutters: Industrial gutters require larger downspouts to efficiently carry the higher volume of water away from the building. These can be 85mm to 160nn or more in diameter, and in some cases, the number of downspouts may be higher to handle the load. Rectangular 75x100mm downpipes are also used.
- Domestic Gutters: Residential downspouts are smaller, typically around 85 mm in diameter. Fewer downspouts are needed, as the water volume from a home’s roof is much smaller than that of a commercial building.
- Where there are more trees around a building, bigger and more downpipes are required.
- Water flow in a round downpipe is much more efficient and a vortex is formed, where air is sucked at the middle of the pipe and water flows with a swirl effect at a much quicker speed than in a square or rectangular downpipe
- To further speed up downflow quantity, a rainwater head or collection box can be used.
- This rainwater box creates a venturi effect like inside a carburettor and similar to the force that keeps an aeroplane in the air.
- Cost
- Commercial Gutters: Due to the larger size, stronger materials, and more complex installation and maintenance needs, commercial gutter systems are more expensive to install and maintain.
- Domestic Gutters: Residential gutters are less expensive both in terms of installation and maintenance due to their smaller scale and simpler materials.
- Structural Considerations
- Commercial Gutters: Commercial systems are designed to withstand harsher conditions, such as higher wind speeds, debris buildup, and larger volumes of water. They may also need to comply with local commercial building codes and regulations.
- Domestic Gutters: Residential systems are built to accommodate typical weather conditions found in residential areas, with less need for heavy-duty materials or designs.
- Aesthetic Considerations
- Commercial Gutters: Since they are often on large buildings, aesthetics are less of a concern compared to their functional capacity. They are built to prioritize strength and durability over appearance.
- Domestic Gutters: Homeowners often choose gutters that complement the appearance of their homes. There is a broader selection of styles and colors for residential gutters to match the home’s exterior.
